Natural Remedies to Relieve Diarrhea

Everyone has experienced diarrhea from time to time. Among the symptoms of this digestive problem is abdominal pain, watery stools, and dehydration for the more severe cases.

Diarrhea often occurs when there is a problem with the digestive system. It is our body’s way of correcting issues in the tummy which is why it tends to disappear after an hour or two. However, if your diarrhea isn’t abating, you might need to try these home remedies to find relief.

  • Keep away from certain foods. If you have diarrhea it is important that you pay attention to what you eat. There are some types of food that can make this digestive issue worse than it is which can lead to dehydration. Among the foods that you need to stay away from are coffee, milk, alcohol, and other beverages plus dairy products, and of course, greasy and fatty foods. You can, however, eat beans, corn, prunes, peppers, and chickpeas to help ease the rumbling in your tummy.
  • Have some ginger. Ginger is often used to treat food poisoning and is also an effective remedy against abdominal pain and cramps. For this treatment, simply grate some ginger and add a teaspoon of honey to it. Eat the solution to help your stomach produce more gastric juices to aid in digestion. Don’t drink water immediately afterwards. Another solution is to drink some ginger tea at least two times in a day to help alleviate diarrhea.
  • Eat yogurt. The sour taste might put you off but yogurt is actually a good home remedy against diarrhea. The probiotics present in yogurt can help bring balance to the bacteria in your stomach for better digestion. Chose plain yogurt rather than the flavored ones then add some fruit to taste. Banana is a good choice as it can help restore electrolytes in your body.
  • Drink some chamomile tea. Another home remedy to ease diarrhea is chamomile tea. This beverage has antispasmodic properties to minimize the rumbling and grumbling in your stomach. Another plus to drinking this tea is that it can reduce inflammation. To make the tea, steep a teaspoon of peppermint leaves and a teaspoon of chamomile flowers in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes or so. Strain afterwards then drink the solution.
  • Peppermint can help. Most people associate peppermint with candies or drinks but this ingredient is actually used to ease diarrhea. If you have some peppermint plant at home, get a few sprigs of it, make sure they’re clean, and steep in them in a cup of hot water until the water is warm enough for you. Sip the drink to ease your diarrhea.

These are just a few examples of home remedies that can help relieve diarrhea and other digestive problems. The best thing about these remedies is that they are relatively safe and that you can use them whenever you have an upset stomach. Although over-the-counter medications can help solve.
